OHS Field Hockey Players,

Welcome to your 2015 Summer Strength and Conditioning Program! I have attached for you monthly calendars with daily conditioning drills. The program is designed to start you off slowly and ease you into more challenging drills approaching the beginning of preseason. The summer conditioning program is not only to get you into shape for the 2015 fall Field Hockey season, but it also prevents injury during season! You are expected to start the program in June and continue throughout the summer. After each day that you complete the workout, put your initials on the line provided. I will be checking your folders on the first day of preseason to see how much you have completed this summer. I am counting on you to hold yourself accountable for your own conditioning this summer. I expect you all to come into preseason healthy and in shape! Call up a teammate or a friend and workout together, push each other! The guide below gives you directions on how to complete the summer conditioning program. If you have any questions or want to tell me how you are doing, feel free to contact me. Successful seasons begin in the off-season! Let's go Ossining Field Hockey!!

Coach Jessica

It is important that you have your stick in your hand over the summer. Remember you can improve your stick work abilities in the off-season while maintaining and fine-tuning your skills during the season. The following exercises will enhance your stick work skill and should be done three days a week.

  • Boxes – 25
  • Air dribble – 50
  • Indian dribble – 2 lengths of the field
  • Drives and Slaps – 20-25 each. Focus on distance, power and accuracy
  • Flicks, scoops, push passes, reverse stick stop, drives and reverse stick drives – 20 of each
  • Quick free hits (imagine whistle, then pick up ball, place it on the ground and take a hit)
  • Corner shots – receive 25 in a row, aim for corners of the cage, get quick, hard hits off
  • Insert corners – 25 (focus hitting target with speed and accuracy)
  • Penalty strokes – 25 aim for the corners and practice going left and right
  • Pull backs – 25
  • Spins – 25 left and right

*Be sure to mark your workout calendar with the days you complete the stick work exercises.
