What is Ed Law 2-d?

Ed Law 2-d is a New York State law designed to protect your child’s privacy. It sets strict rules for how schools and their tech vendors handle Personally Identifiable Information (PII) belonging to students, as well as certain data for teachers and principals.

Think of it as a digital shield that ensures your child’s data is used strictly for education—never for profit.

The Core Promises to Parents

Under this law, our school district and any technology platforms we use must stick to these primary rules:

No Selling Data: Your child’s information can never be sold or released for marketing or commercial purposes.
Strict Security Standards: Any tech company we partner with must use industry-standard security measures (like encryption, secure firewalls, and password protection) to keep data safe while it is being stored or sent.
Limited Access: Only the specific employees or tech vendors who need the data to run educational programs are allowed to see it.
Transparency: Schools must maintain a public list of what student data is collected and why.

Your Rights: The Parents' Bill of Rights

Every school district is required to publish a Parents’ Bill of Rights for Data Privacy and Security on its website. This document legally guarantees that:

You have the right to inspect and review the complete contents of your child’s education record.
You have the right to know exactly which tech vendors have access to your child's data and what they are using it for.
You have the right to file a complaint if you suspect there has been a data breach or unauthorized misuse of information.

Technology Acceptable Use

Digital Responsibility Starts Here: Technology Acceptable Use

At its core, Technology Acceptable Use is our shared agreement for navigating the digital world safely, respectfully, and securely. It outlines the clear guardrails for how we use community networks, devices, and internet resources, all while ensuring that our digital spaces remain productive, protect user privacy, and stay free from inappropriate or disruptive behavior. It is a digital code of conduct that empowers everyone to learn, collaborate, and innovate safely.

Daily Charging (Grades 6–12): Responsibility begins at home. Devices assigned to students in grades 6–12 are expected to be fully charged each day before coming to school so they are ready for learning.

Technology Plan

Classlink

To simplify the school day, Ossining UFSD uses ClassLink as our Single Sign-On (SSO) platform. It serves as the official starting place for all classroom technology. Instead of managing dozens of different usernames and passwords, students log in just once using their secure district credentials to instantly access all of their approved educational apps, websites, and digital resources from both school and home.

The app and programs provided through Classlink are specifically tailored for each student. Students will be able to access age appropriate and content specific materials through Classlink.
